About

The Winter Moon Tea House and Gardens are located on the property of Capt John Burke on Vashon Island. He began construction over 15 years ago with the intention of creating a space for the experience of Chado, the way of tea or the “Japanese tea ceremony” as it’s described in the West. Tea was first served here in 2010.

Upon completion, Christopher Sokan Ezzell was invited by John to use the teahouse. Not only as a place for promoting, practicing, and experiencing Chado, but for teaching others how to incorporate its values and aesthetics into everyday life.

Chris has been a student of the Urasenke tradition of Tea and the Rinzai tradition of Zen Buddhism since 2006.

We invite you to explore more about the tea house by viewing the archives of our previous events.
